What are the best restaurants on Amelia Island?

There is no single answer, and any list that gives you one is guessing on your behalf. The best restaurant here depends on who is coming and what kind of night it is. A table for two that wants the sunset is a different answer from six people with sandy kids, and both are different from a Tuesday in February when half the kitchens are dark. So pick the kind of evening first: everything under it is a real candidate, already checked.

What time do restaurants close on Amelia Island?

Earlier than you would guess. Of the 79 kitchens here with published hours, 83 percent stop serving by nine, Sunday through Thursday, and Sunday is the earliest night of the lot. Friday and Saturday are the two that run on. For a genuinely late meal there are 19 places serving past ten on at least one night of the week. Check the entry for the night you are actually going, because the pattern is not a promise.

What is closed on Sundays and Mondays?

Sunday and Monday are the risk. Sunday closes 15 of these kitchens and Monday another 13, with Tuesday next. By Friday almost nobody shuts. In the off season some quietly add a second dark day, so a place that was open on your last trip may not be on this one. Every entry carries its own days.

Where do the locals eat on Amelia Island?

Not in one list, and we would be making it up if we handed you one. Nothing here is paid for and nothing is ranked, so a locals' list would be our guess dressed as a consensus. Which Amelia Island restaurants are on the water?

Fewer than the island's reputation suggests. The ones with a real view are gathered in the On the water group below, and most sit on the river side, which is the downtown and marina side rather than the Atlantic. That is also the side the sun goes down on, which is why a water table in season is worth booking rather than chancing.

Where can I eat in downtown Fernandina?

Downtown is the densest eating on the island and the only part of it you can do on foot. 29 of these kitchens sit in the downtown blocks, close enough that you can change your mind on the sidewalk instead of in the car. Downtown has something for every kind of evening, so pick the evening first and read the addresses second.

Where can I get breakfast, and how early?

Breakfast is the island's thinnest meal. The median opening time on this page is 11 AM, so most of these kitchens never serve it at all. 21 open by eight, and those are the ones to plan around. Several stop serving breakfast in the early afternoon with the room still open, so if breakfast is the point, read that entry's hours rather than the group's.

Do I need a reservation?

For a dressed-up evening, assume yes. Same for a water table in season, or a party over four. For the casual rooms, the food trucks and the coffee stops, walking in is normal. Beyond that, call ahead on any night that matters.

Start with the kind of evening you are having, not the cuisine and not a rating. A water view or a walkable downtown. Kids along, or a table for two. Straight off the beach, or somewhere that asks a bit more of you. Find the group that matches your night and start there.

Plan to eat earlier than you would at home. Of the 79 kitchens here with published hours, 83 percent stop serving by 9pm from Sunday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday run later, but only by about an hour. Arrive at 8pm and you have roughly one hour of choices left.

Check which days a place closes before you plan around it. 15 of these kitchens close on Sunday and 13 close on Monday. Almost none close on a Friday or a Saturday. If your trip runs Sunday to Tuesday, look at the days first, and expect more closures in the off season.

The best restaurant here depends on who is coming and what kind of night it is. A table for two that wants the sunset is a different answer from six people with sandy kids, and both are different from a Tuesday in February when half the kitchens are dark. So pick the kind of evening first: everything under it is a real candidate, already checked.
